Hideout under attack

Erik was making dinner for him and Malak when she gets home. He hears an alarm being raced outside the window of people talking loudly and screaming to one another about something. Erik looks out the window and can see a thick smoke coming from the den. He gets a little excited thinking that this will be a fierce battle. Quickly he grabs his swords and jumps out the window.
For each step the smoke seams to disappear.  Erik feels uneasy and picks up the phase. He reaches the den and sees at least 8 bodies scattered around the courtyard of the den. His eyes widen as he sees Malaks lifeless body on the ground. In a swift run he is besides her holding up her head making it easier to breath. Her chest is moving. She is still alive. Erik let's out a sigh of relief. He kisses her forehead trying to wake her up but she is knocked out cold. He carries her away from the smoked area and goes to check on the others. They are all still alive.
One thought occupies Erik's mind.
"Who did this?"
