Once upon a time

There once was a little girl happily playing with her friends in the cold, white snow. When she saw a cute little bunny sitting and watching them from the outskirt of the big forest. She wanted to hug and kiss the cute little bunny but as she approached it the bunny ran away. The little girl did not hesitate to chase the bunny determined to catch it and take it home. She ran fast deep into the forest. She soon lost sight of the bunny and realized that she was lost. She was scared of the big trees looking down upon her. For hours she had walked and for hours she was lost with nothing and no one as the sky became dark and the shadows grew long.
Her vision started to blur. And as her strength left her body and her legs could not carry her she feel down into the cold snow.
“Mommy. Help me.” the girl cried but there was no one there to hear her faint words. She closed her eyes and drifted away into a deep sleep.
But at that moment when all hope for the girl was gone one of the most unlikely creatures came running past. It was a young snow spirit in search of his supper. He saw the lifeless body of the young girl but was unable to see what kind of creature she was. He approached her slowly and was just about to turn her over when he realized what she was.
“A human?” He said and took a step back. You see, for a snow spirit to touch a human’s warm skin could be fatal.
But this spirit, though he was young, was not a stupid spirit. He could see that the small human in front of him was in grave danger. He gathered his courage and took a hold of the girls cote and turned her around.
He gasped from the beauty of the small child. Her lips wear red like a ruby and her skin was pale like the snow. He wanted to touch her skin but did not dare to. “Are you okay?” He asked her but the girl did not answer. Her breathing was slow and her lips were turning blue. Soon there will be no saving her. The spirit knows this and he is unable to leave her to die. He lifts her up on his back and carries her away. As they walk the little girls cheek touches the spirit. It’s ice cold to the touch. The spirit starts running. There is no time to loose.
“Do not worry.” he says to the girl. “I will save you”
He gently puts her down beside a pile of dried wood left by a lumberjack the day before. The spirit searches for matches or something to light the fire but comes up empty handed. He looks over at the girl’s lifeless body in the snow.  Just like the snow melts on the first day of spring his tears starts to flow down his cheeks. He quickly wipes them away and makes a decision that will change his life. He places his hand on the little girls face and gently rubs her cheek with his thumb.  
“Oh little one, how I wish that you and I could be together. That I could tell you just how beautiful you are” The spirit kisses her cheek and takes a step back. He sits down in the dried wood and starts singing.

“Jag kallar er gamla krafter från förr
hjälp mig rädda denna hjälplösa flicka
Hon har tagit mitt hjärta
Nu ger jag min själ till henne”

As the spirit finishes his song he burst into flames igniting the wood below. The heath from the fire reaches the girl and caresses her skin. As the spirit is engulfed in flames he looks down upon the girl and smiles. He gave his life to save the girl he loved. She will always remember the time she got lost in the forest but she will never know the spirit. Nor will she know how she was saved but deep inside of her she will always know the magic of the spirit and the warmth he gave her.
